We are considering taking a European or Australian-New Zealand-South Africa Tour in 2007. Many of you have already been in Europe on rugby tours. The rugby community in Washington, DC has certainly hosted many a European touring side. Please give us your opinion about which countries we should visit. England, Wales, and Scotland are a natural. Should we also head to the continent for some games in France and Germany? Given all the Australians connected with PAC Rugby why not tour Australia, New Zealand and South Africa? Please submit your suggestions. Let us know if you would be interested in participating in the trip. We can decide as a group on where to go and when to go.

Some of you will envision a PAC alumni tour of Europe as a golf tour or a sight seeing tour. Perhaps we could attend some national or professional rugby matches. Others will see this as a chance to take a PAC touring side on the road. How about a competitive side, an old boys side and a youth side? The format is wide open. The trip may have various objectives. Stefan Hankin says that a fall trip would conflict the least with super league commitments of the competitive PAC side.

Alumni Who Have Expressed Interest in Going: Christopher Coburn, John Emmitte, Patrick Dynes, Tony Neidenback, Marc Nemec, and others.

Hi Dan.

I was wondering if you could do us a favour and give a mention in your
newsletters to the eighth European Golden Oldies Rugby Festival, to be
hosted by the Swiss Gnomes in Zurich , Switzerland , from 22nd to 25th
June 2006.

In 1982, while looking to bring the Golden Oldies Rugby Festival to
Europe , Paul Gleeson, the WGOR supremo talked to Ex-England and British
Lions centre Jeff Butterfield. As a result the 1985 World Festival was
held in London and Jeff became involved in Golden Oldies Rugby in
Europe , becoming the first President of EGOR and being instrumental in
setting up the EGOR festivals from 1992 onwards. Jeff retired from
active involvement in EGOR in 2002 when the position of President was
amply filled by the current incumbent, Dave McDonald. Jeff Butterfield
passed away in April 2004, aged 74, just a few weeks short of the 7th
EGOR in Benidorm.

The aim of EGOR is to get as many European countries as possible
involved in the Golden Oldies scene and we hope to attract teams from
the smaller - in rugby terms - countries. If your team is not from
Europe and wants to come along then don't despair as there is a
tradition of one or two 'guest' teams from e.g. South Africa or USA
joining in with us. The festival follows the pattern of teams arriving
on the Thursday with a welcome party that evening. Games are played on
the Friday and Sunday with a 'free day' on the Saturday. The festival
closes with a Gala Dinner on the Sunday evening at which, of course the
speeches are short, the trophies are many and the fun, friendship and
fraternity are foremost.

From the first festival in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands , when there
were 290 participants in 12 teams from 8 countries, the festival has
gradually grown in stature until last year's fabulous festival in sunny
Benidorm when there were 31 teams from 15 countries - 835 participants
in all. The places for next year's festival are quickly being taken up
and we have nearly
twenty teams signed up from all over Europe

All the information for the Zurich festival is to be found on our
website at www.egorf2006.ch and you can have all your questions answered
by contacting info@egorf2006.ch.

Here is a note from Tony Neidenbach concerning touring:

Joe, I could be a great help with scheduling some fixtures with either old boys or other teams in the London area, great golf at my old club Foxhills ( http://www.foxhills.co.uk/  2 PGA Championship courses, pub w/ snooker, 4 star restaurant, etc.), sporting clays shooting at Bisley Shooting Ground ( http://www.bisleyshooting.co.uk/index1.htm  another of my old clubs), and depending on schedule get everyone to go to an England match ( http://www.england-rugby.com/EnglandRugby/index.cfm ) at Twickenham . My son's (Sam) old club, Chobham RFC ( http://www.chobham-rugby.co.uk/ ) could host us and I could get a jam up band " The Full Monty " who play great dance music at the clubhouse all the time, to play one night at a party at the club. They serve, in addition to other ales and lagers, my favorite " Speckled Hen " on tap. And I could have us go to a different traditional pub for dinner every afternoon/night. I am so hooked up there it would be an awesome time. London is an 40 minute train ride from Woking, which is in the area of all these events I have mentioned. Ann used to commute into London daily from Woking. Let me know if you would like me to help coordinate this section of the trip. See you at the Re-union, Tony Neidenbach
